Washington Post Live Presents Global Health Conference
Top experts meet to find solutions for alarming rates of diabetes, cancer, heart and other noncommunicable diseases
Washington, D.C.—September 8, 2011—Washington Post Live, the live journalism division of The Washington Post, will host a global health conference called “Sharing the Responsibility: Non-Communicable Diseases” Wednesday, September 14. Internationally-recognized leaders from around the globe will meet at the Washington Post to discuss the challenge of treating heart disease, cancer, diabetes and other non-contagious diseases, particularly in developing nations where millions are dying every year prematurely. The day-long conference will also be streamed live at washingtonpostlive.com.
“We are convening the rock stars of global health to talk about solutions to what Ban Ki Moon, the United Nation’s Secretary General, calls the ‘crisis in slow motion',” said Mary Jordan, Editor of Washington Post Live. “Days ahead of a landmark United Nation’s meeting on this issue, our summit aims to draw wider attention to this global health crisis. We are bringing together the brightest minds from many countries to discuss how to prevent and treat these diseases. Ten years ago the big issue was HIV/AIDs, now it is these so-called behavior diseases that need more attention.”
In addition to discussions with leading health experts, the World Health Organization will distribute its latest report featuring never-released information about the status of non-communicable diseases in 193 countries.
