The Fifth Annual CGI Meeting took place last week in New York City.  Whether attending in person or virtually via the event’s live webcast, the event was the focus of many in the global health and development communities.  Below is a sampling of posts from the many online thought leaders who shared their insights on the CGI meeting.

“CGI ’09:  Evaluation and #cgi10” – Eric P. Green
Dr. Green dedicated his blog to a five-part series on the CGI meeting last week. In this post, Dr. Green expressed his desire to learn more about CGI’s database tracking members’ Commitments to Action. He would also like to see more conversations that include discussions evaluating “what works” on the ground.

“President Clinton Announces New Commitments to Address Global Hunger and Undernutrition at CGI Meeting” – The Hunger and Undernutrition blog
In the second in a series of posts dedicated to the CGI meeting, Sue Preziotti reported CGI’s expectation that 4.7 million children would benefit as a result of the malnutrition interventions announced at the CGI meeting by members including PATH, PEPFAR and USAID.

“Can Clinton Award-Winner Ruchira Gupta Change the World?” – Tonic
Katherine Gustavson profiled 2009 Clinton Global Citizen Award Winner Ruchira Gupta, who was honored for “visionary leadership in solving pressing global challenges” for her work as an anti-sex-trafficking activist.  “If you invest in a girl or a woman,” Gupta said, “you can change the whole system.”

There have been 1,400 Commitments to Action made in the five years CGI has been hosting its annual meeting, Farzaneh of the Global Health Ideas blog reported.  In her post, Farzaneh highlighted innovation and investing in women and girls as the major themes of commitments made at the2009 meeting.

Managing director of the Solar Electric Light Company, Harish Hande, spoke at CGI about driving innovation from the “bottom of the pyramid.”  This post shares a bit more about Hande’s efforts to bring energy to low-income populations in India.

“Starting to Tweet, Clinton Global Initiative Case Study on CSDW, and Nursing Editorial” – Children’s Safe Drinking Water
