HIV infections and deaths fall as drugs have impact
November 25th, 2009 | BBC News
UNAids and the World Health Organization have confirmed that the HIV pandemic is trending downwards for the first time in the disease’s history. Sub-Saharan Africa saw the biggest improvements with 400,000 fewer infections. Though numbers are declining for new infections the number of people living with HIV went up due to efficient antiretroviral drug treatment. Millions are surviving longer with the disease and new infections are prevented in children as more HIV-positive people can access treatment.
