The World Health Organisation (WHO) yesterday released its State of the World`s Health report, which shows that Africa accounts for 9 out of every 10 child deaths due to malaria.

Dr. Peter Piot on Past and Present Challenges for Global Health and AIDS

The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) will host Dr. Peter Piot, Executive Director of UNAIDS. Dr. Piot will deliver an address on the achievements and challenges the world has faced in the past decade, during the period of his leadership at UNAIDS. Nigeria: Nafdac Blacklists 22 Firms Over Fake Drugs

Fifteen Indian and seven Nigerian pharmaceutical companies indicted for manufacturing fake drugs, documents forgery and other unethical practices have been blacklisted by National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).

Uganda: Monitor Drugs in Health Units (Editorial)

There are many cases of drug theft and diversion of drugs from government health facilities to private clinics. Health officials make off with tones of hospital drugs to run their own private clinics. Ironically, drugs also expire in stores as health centres complain of lack of drugs and send patients to buy them from private drug shops.

Govt gets equipment to test drugs

The National Drug Authority (NDA) has acquired five mini-laboratories and computer equipment to detect fake drugs. Speaking during the handover of the equipment worth $49,000 (sh88.2m) by the World Health Organisation (WHO) last week, Apollo Muhairwe, the NDA executive secretary, said cases of counterfeit drugs were decreasing following the acquisition of the new equipment.
