Disability, Poverty, Development and Public Health: Part 1

Disability is a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. This is especially true in low income countries, where accessible services are often lacking. We will deal with two main issues. Firstly, many disabilities are preventable, if the correct public health measures are taken. Secondly, persons with disabilities have the right to access to healthcare and rehabilitation on an equal basis as others in their communities; at present this right is denied.
