Blog Roundup: Donations, Development and Disparities

Michael Coston of Avian Flu Diary notes the current prevalence of bubonic plague in the developed and developing world.  As part of the entry, Coston has posted the CDC’s World Distribution of Plague map from 1998; and if you haven’t seen it, the map may surprise you.

Bill Brieger discusses in his Malaria Matters blog whether Nigeria will be able to overcome health system inefficiencies and public complacency to eliminate malaria.  While Josh Lozman of The One Blog writes that beating malaria is starting to look possible, thanks to programs like the Global Malaria Action Plan and PATH’s Malaria Vaccine Initiative.

Mead Over comments, via the Center for Global Development’s Global Health Policy blog, on the global overestimation of vaccination rates.  A recent study by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation looks at discrepancies between vaccination rates reported by governments and those estimated by household surveys.
