Africans Helping Africans

Many health education programs in Africa thrive when the community gets involved. Utilizing traditional methods of communication, such as song, dance, poetry and theater, gets critical health messages out to the broader community.

Resources for the Field

Healthy Children, Healthy Futures
Established in 1986, INMED Partnerships for Children is dedicated to empowering communities to develop healthy, educated children with better opportunities for the future. INMED's Healthy Children, Healthy Futures program provides education on preventative health and nutrition, treats children for intestinal parasitic infection and nutrient deficiencies, and delivers HIV/AIDS education. With J&J's support, volunteers have trained 10,000 teachers, cafeteria workers and health department staff to identify and teach children about health issues. More than 450,000 children and their parents across Brazil have joined Healthy Children, Healthy Futures programs. Over a three year period, parasitic infection in participating schools have fallen by as much as 50 percent. In addition, deaths due to parasitic infections are on the decline.
